A beautiful Tuesday afternoon to you all from sunny Columbus…I hope everyone had a great Labor Day Weekend, the Buzz took an extended weekend vacation and with the game on Thursday–well I wanted to wait until the entire weekend of college football was played… before we sent out the observations from week #1.

Thursday night was more than routine as far as the Buckeye’s victory was concerned—I mean yeah it WAS Marshall, but the atmosphere leading up to this season, the night time kickoff…the place was rockin! This team is FOCUSED, you can tell…of course let’s not get ahead of ourselves a bigger test comes this Saturday, but for one night..we played solid.

The defense once again was fantastic. If we do not give up a blocked punt returned for a touchdown, a shut out could have been in order. Marshall ran the ball 22 times for 44 yards! Great to see Tyler Moeller back from a head injury that robbed him of last year’s season…seven tackles including one sack and all over the field. Jermale Hines all over the place as well…the man hits like a linebacker and plays the pass like a DB…solid effort from the Silver Bullets.

Offensively, it appears that Terrelle has picked up where he left off last year in the Rose Bowl…forget the stats 17-25 (245 yards) and 3 touchdowns…it was his control of the team in and out of the huddle, his command on the field, he definitely is in for a solid year. We are deep at running back –Saine and Herron both ran well…but you need to add in Jaamal Berry and Jordan Hall, 112 yards between the two of them. The line moved some players off the ball—again a different test will come in a few days, but for opening night again good effort.

The specials teams are NOT special…they need to get better. I will say this the return team of Berry and freshman Corey Brown are very good and very fast…don’t be surprised if you see some nice kickoff and punt returns this season…

All in all…great tailgating weather…awesome evening for football…great crowd, a perfect tune up for what is still to come this season.

Weekend Observations…

First of all PLEASE PLEASE don’t tell me that Boise State should play in the National Championship game  before a one loss Big 10, SEC, or Big 12 team! Relax Musburger, Boise State is not that good (My God listening to you last night I thought they were going to play in this year’s SUPER BOWL!)…their defense gave up many big plays…come on its Virginia Tech… think about it Virginia Tech…Remember the past decade…let me ask you this… does VT NOT blow the big games every year?!!!—THEY SUCK! 

Come on people…already today Boise has SEVEN first place votes in the writer’s poll…the writers make fun of the coaches saying they have knee jerk reactions? Did you know Virginia Tech has not beaten a top 5 team away from home in their history!—so let’s climb down from the mountain…we have about fourth months still to play—Boise is not the king of college football—a nice story but relax

SEC…SEC…can’t you hear the chant! The GREAT SEC…Really?, talk to me Mississippi…you lost to Jacksonville State!!! Jacksonville State!!!! Jacksonville State had so much confidence they would beat you they went for the extra 2 when they could have just kicked the extra point on gone to triple overtime… Oh and the mighty Gators, you got out played by Miami…that’s Miami of Ohio!…LSU…you played a team in North Carolina, that had 12 starters out and you should have got beat—you have Les Miles coaching, so I’m not worried about you, you have a few losses coming your way…I’m sure the writers though will tell us how GREAT the SEC still is…just go on ESPN.com!

Oklahoma…not unusual…you lost five games last year and the “experts” thought you should have played in the National title game!!!..Once again you have everyone fooled…ooooohhh hey lookie here, you beat Utah State 31-24…you are not that good either…CAN’T WAIT until Nebraska gets hold of you!

Mi##igan…uh oh… I hear it now…Colin Cowherd actually said it today…”Mi##igan will play in the National Title in the next two years”…MY GOD I should have been a radio talk show host…RELAX COLIN…these talk show hosts just blow smoke from week to week and then when it DOESN’T happen, they never bring it up and don’t take any calls from people who try to bring  it up! Yes Mi##igan’s QB (Robinson) played well…here’s an important point to remember…do you remember Pat White @ WVU…always hurt at the end of the season…mark it down RichRod’s QB’s take a pounding…watch when we get to game six or game seven or game eight…we’ll see how healthy Robinson is then. Kudo’s to Mi##igan though…you as well as the other top four Big Ten teams (Iowa, Ohio State, Wisconsin and Penn State)…you all played solid.

Hey Cincinnati…you want to try and challenge Ohio State for state supremacy now–you had a couple good years—try doing it for about 50 years and then we can talk???…Notre Dame…uh oh here we go again…here they come (Fans) out of the darkness telling you why the Irish are going undefeated this season….USC, you gave up 36 to Hawaii…better be careful this year…Ahhh it’s GREAT to have the Irish and USC to make fun of again…just love it

An exciting opening weekend…pictures from the Marshall tailgate are up on the website…great to see Gary & Sarah (North Carolina) in the house for opening night…and now the season starts…the Miami Hurricanes, it brings back great memories for me… that January night in 2003 in the Arizona dessert…and now they come to the “Shoe. The excitement is already building!
